Removal of illegal Transport stations in Uyo

The Executive Chairman of Uyo Local Government Area, Hon. Uwemedimo Udo, On Monday, 4th July 2022, mandated transport agencies to relocate illegal transportation parks.
He gave this charge during a closed-door meeting with heads of security agencies, the National Union of Road Transport Workers, and other stakeholders on the rising menace of illegal loading and off-loading points in the Uyo metropolis.
Addressing the stakeholders, Dr. Uwemedimo, who is committed to the well-being of people, emphasized the need for synergy from all to reposition commuters in the Government approved motor parks. He said in doing so; roads would be decongested, giving ease to vehicular and human movement in the state capital.

Speaking Further, The Chairman noted that some scrupulous elements had taken advantage of these illegal parks to cause Mayhem and disrupt peace. He stressed that this would no longer be tolerated.
He urged the Police to collaborate with the Road Union in the weeding of all illegal loading and off-loading points and relocate them to Government approved parks.
Mandating that they should bring defaulters to book.
The Council Boss further stated that the duty of security called for cooperation among the stakeholders and counseled the unionists to avoid any situation that would birth avoidable rancor, conflict, and violence in the transport sector.
He also urged them to discourage the use of minibusses for Intra State routes without going through due process.

In Closing, the Executive Chairman reiterated his stance on ensuring safety for the people of Uyo metropolis and promised there would be a marked difference in the activities of the transport sector. He thanked the service chiefs and Nigerian Union of Road transport workers for cooperating.
In response, the Police assured the Chairman of swift action to ensure that law and order returned to the State capital.
Similarly, in his response, the Chairman of the Nigerian Union of Road transport workers, Uyo chapter, also pledged the union’s support and assured that defaulters would be identified and handed over to the Security agencies.
