FEDERATION OF LG DIRECTORS OF WORKS CELEBRATES RETIRED MEMBERS

Cross section of The Federation of Local Government Directors of Works, Akwa Ibom State

Members of the Federation of Local Government Directors of Works, Akwa Ibom State gathered on July 16, 2022, at the prestigious NULGE House, Abak Road to celebrate members who retired from the service of the Unified Local Government Service in the State.

The forum consists of the thirty-one Heads of Works Department appointed by the Local Government Service Commission to oversee the affairs of the Directorate in the thirty-one Local Government Councils in the State.

The three retirees celebrated by the forum were: Sir. Arc. Amos Akpanudo who retired from Uruan Local Government Council, Engr. Etim Edet Eyo, Okobo, and Engr. Bassey Udo Udofia

Declaring the event opened, the Chairman on the Occasion, Very Rev. ESV Ubon Usoro lauded the organizers for deeming it fit to celebrate their members who have retired and urged the forum to continue fostering peace amongst its members while projecting the integrity of the forum and the profession.

Similarly, The Chairman of the forum Bldr. Clifford Ndon in his welcome remarks acknowledged the effort of the retirees specifically, the pioneer chairman Sir Amos Akpanobong for being the brain behind the formation of the forum and urged members to imbibe the spirit of togetherness as was exhibited by the retirees.

AKS. NULGE PRESIDENT, CELEBRATES WITH THE RETIREES

In her goodwill message, the President, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees(NULGE) Akwa Ibom State, Comrade Anestina Iweh who was one of the special guests at the event said she was pleased to attend the first-ever event organized by the forum.

Comrade Iweh charged members of the forum to be alert to the condition of their workplaces stating that the maintenance of facilities in the councils falls under their Directorate.

She further expressed dissatisfaction with the level of decay she witnessed when she led members of the State Administrative Council (SAC) of the Union on a Sensitization/facilities inspection tour to the thirty-one Local Government Councils.

RETIREMENT AGE REVIEW, A CONSIDERATION FOR JOB SEEKERS

Responding on behalf of the retirees, Sir Arc. Amos Akpanudo, the pioneer Chairman and also the immediate past Chairman of the forum thanked members for the honour done them. He credited the moment to God who has given them the grace to serve and retire in good health.

Sir Akpanudo, however, suggested that the retirement age in Civil Service should be reviewed by Government to accommodate the incessant strike by the University Lecturers in the Country and also the scarcity of employment in the Civil Service.

He said “ the way Nigeria is going a greater number of graduates from Nigeria Universities would have crossed the twenty-five years employment age standard before they could be employed.

In his Vote of thanks, the Chairman of the planning committee, Engr. Isemin Isemin, the Director of Works, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council expressed joy for the success of the event and called on members to work towards projecting the forum in good light.
