Chairman Uyo Local Government Council, Dr. Uwemedimo Udo has described as timely, apt, and well targeted, the sensitization of the Boy Child by the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ Akwa Ibom State Council.
Dr. Uwemedimo Udo while dialoguing with the Executive of the Association at Uyo Council on Monday acknowledged that the consistency and level of educating the Girl Child have yielded positive and tremendous effort; thus, he applauded NAWOJ for deliberately opting to sensitize the boys for an attitudinal and behavioural balance of the society.
Upholding that the Church is the conscience of the society, Udo had encouraged the Association to also devote time towards engaging religious leaders whose platform multiple persons could be reached simultaneously and the much-needed outcome achieved seamlessly.
While commending the Governor’s wife, Dr. Martha Emmanuel for championing the fight against Gender-Based Violence, Uyo Council Chairman said it is important to discourage violence whether at home or elsewhere, and men too, be encouraged to speak out and seek help when battered or violated.
He, however, congratulated the Leadership of NAWOJ Akwa Ibom State for a successful election and seamless transition and urged the new Executive to deliver on their promises to the Association while encouraging Journalists to uphold professionalism as they perform their Social Responsibility role.
Earlier, Chairman of NAWOJ, Comrade Nsikak Okon who led the Executive on a courtesy visit to the Chairman of Uyo Council had intimated him of the Association’s planned events of Sensitisation of the Boy Child/Political Awareness for Market Women billed for Wednesday, 20th July 2022; Training of Female Journalists on Reporting Sexual and Gender-Based Violence on Thursday, 21st July 2022 and Thanksgiving Service at Pentecostal Assemblies of God, Abak Local Government Area on Sunday, 24th July 2022; to mark the new leadership’s One Hundred Days in office.
Comrade Nsikak Okon also said part of the reasons for the visit was to familiarise the Council with the new Executive and also strengthen the existing partnership and collaboration between both Councils.
