The president, National Association Of Heads Of Local Government Administration of Nigeria (NAHOLGAN), Dr. Mandu Ekpenyong, has applauded the sterling qualities of Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, on areas of industrialization and peace maintenance Initiative.
Dr. Ekpenyong made the commendation during the just concluded maiden National Conference of NAHOLGAN which took place at Ibom Hall, Ibb. Avenue, uyo, between 17th and 18th November, 2021.
” Governor Emmanuel led administration has demonstrated concern for grassroot development in the areas of industrialization and agriculture, through provision of good roads, and building of industries such as coconut refinery located in Onna local government Area; supports to Farmers through grants/fertilizer distribution and provision of agro seedlings for all round cultivations as well as providing enabling and secure environment for development to thrive”. Dr. Ekpenyong, stated.
She also extolled Governor Udom for providing people oriented initiatives christened, Peace Maintenance movement(MPM) in Akwa Ibom for sustainable coexistence smongst the citizenry.
Speaking further, Ekpenyong, stated that NAHOLGAN was ready to contribute and support government’s policies at every state and local government of its operation through out the federation to aptly engage in all round development and maintainace of effective local government system in Nigeria, that would measure up with what is obtainable in other developed Countries in the world.
“This Association (NAHOLGAN) decided to come together with the aim of looking into the challenges facing local government administration in Nigeria with respect to constitutional provisions in the area of local government autonomy as enshrined in the 1999 constitution (as amended), and to also proffer solutions to issues of uniformity in nomenclature of Administrators in the Local Government system”.
“Hence, the theme of the conference; PROFESSIONALISM: FUTURE OF LOCAL GOVERNMENT ADMINISTRATION IN NIGERIA” Dr. Ekpenyong reiterated.
Meanwhile, The 2-day National conference was officially opened by the Governor of Akwa Ibom State who was represented by the Head of Service, Prof. Aniefiok Essien.
The conference featured a Keynote presentation by Prof. John Alabi, Dean, Faculty of Management Sciences, Kogi State University, Anyigba on A virile Local Government In Nigeria.
Other discourses included, National Economic Development In Nigeria: A Panacea For National Security, by Prof. Usman Abubakar ABU, Zaria, while Alhaji Amadu Musa of the department of Local Government studies ASCON spoke on, ” The Role Of Local Government In National Economic Development In Nigeria”.
“The Local Government Administration In Nigeria: the Myth and Realities,” was presented by Prof. Akpanim Ekpe of Akwa Ibom State University.
Highpoint of the event was presentation of conference certificates to participants and official adoption of the communique issued at the end of the conference.
