
The Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong today Sunday, November 21, 2021, performed the ceremonial kick-off of the inter-village football competition organized by the Councillor representing Northern Uruan ward 1 in the 7th Uruan Legislative Council, Honourable Ifiokobong Asuquo.
The 2 weeks football competition which is the first of its kind is opened to the youth of the 6 villages of Mbiaya, Ita, Osung, Ibekpe, Ikpa, and Ikot Udo that make up the ward.
In his remarks after the official kick-off, the Council boss acknowledged the potency of football in promoting peaceful co-existence and fostering unity in the society and urged the people of Northern Uruan ward 1 and indeed the people of Uruan Local Government Area to always choose peace in all they do.
Hon. Ekpenyong said that his administration will continue to identify with individuals that have chosen football as one of the unifying factors in Uruan Local Government Area and emphasized that improving sport is one of the 7 points Agenda of his administration.
Also speaking, the former Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Anthony Jude Akan and the MD Akwa Savings and Loans, Pastor Ime Okon respectively commended Hon. Ifiokobong for organizing the football match and urged the youth to always unit in doing good for the development of the ward.
Similarly, the organizer of the football competition, Hon. Ifiokobong Asuquo said he choose football because he knows that it has always been a unifying factor.
According to him, the football competition will run till 3rd December 2021 “ I am sure the 2 weeks earmarked for the competition will help keep the youth of this ward out of crimes and I am certain talents will be discovered at the end of it” he said
The opening match between Itam Allstars and Northern Uruan Allstars at Primary School, Mbiaya ended in a draw.
