The Executive chairman, Obot Akara Local Government Area, Hon. (Lady) Agnes Cosmas Udoenwenwen, has called on members, Conference of village heads, Obot Akara chapter to be actively involved in the selection process of youth president of their respective communities.
The chairman made the call when she played host to the Conference of Village Heads, Obot Akara Chapter, in her office at the Local Government Secretariat, Nto Edino, Monday, 23rd August, 2021.
Addressing the royal fathers at the meeting, Hon. (Lady) Udoenwenwen pointed out that the process of selecting a village youths president and the office thereof, should not be seen as an avenue to create rancour amongst youths.
She charged the youths of Obot Akara to jettison the idea of viewing the office as an opportunity to make money and rather see it as a call to serve.
“I encourage our youths to see this as an opportunity to make good leadership such that if you are saddled with a greater responsibility to lead, you can always do better…
They should expunged the idea of seeing the office as an avenue to make money”, she added.
While thanking the royal fathers for the honour their visits has accorded her, Udoenwenwen however, solicited their support and prayers for the local Government and her administration and promised to look into their listed requests.
Speaking earlier, on behalf of the conference of village Heads, the Secretary, Obong Mathew Akpana, presented to the Executive chairman their requests to include but not limited to;
Renovation and furnishing of the Traditional Ruler’s Council Hall;
Transport/security allowances to village Heads as chief security of their respective Villages;
Financial assistance during burial of village Heads, etc.
Emphasizing the need to integrate the youths during the selection process of who to lead them, the vice chairman, Elder Uduak Effiong Akpan observed that this will further reduced the problem as the youths will chose for themselves a leader.
The Deen of Supervisors and the Supervisor for political/chieftaincy affairs, Hon. Solomon Udom however, urged the village Heads to go back to their respective Communities with a message of active participation by their people in the ongoing voters registration exercise, “as one can only be eligible to vote if he/she is registered and given a voter’s card”, he concluded.
Present during the visit were; the leader of the Legislature, Hon. Mary Moses Akpana, the Council Secretary, Hon. Augustine E. Akpan, the Clan Head of Ikot Abia, H/H Okuku Emmanuel Umana, and the Chairman, Conference of Village Heads, Akwa Ibom State, Chief Monday Etian.
Others were; the Chairman, Conference of Village Heads, Obot Akara Chapter, Obong Jimmy Etok Akpan, Obong Nsikak Ekpemfre, Obong Okokon Ntukidem, and Obong E. I Mendie.
