HON. EKPENYONG FLAGS OFF SKILLS ACQUISITION AND EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME IN URUAN by Roseline Etukudo

The Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. (Surv) Iniobong Ekpenyong has promised to reduce insecurity, youth restiveness, and social vices in the area through continuous engagement of youth in various skills acquisition programmes

Speaking at the official flagging-off ceremony of Youth Skills Acquisition Programme for 1000 beneficiaries, Hon. Ekpenyong said the move was in fulfillment of his administration’s 7 point Agenda promise to the people of Uruan and his willingness to partner with the state government in human capital development.

” This administration is determined to make sure the youth of Uruan Local Government has a place in the society by giving them opportunities to fit in through various forms of empowerment and training.” He said

He urged the beneficiaries and the instructors to take the programme seriously by keeping to the roles of engagement and promised to give a start-up package to the best graduating trainees at the expiration of the stipulated 6 months period.

Presenting a talk on SME’s in Akwa Ibom State, the SA to Governor on SMEs, Mrs. Meflyn Awana enlightened the beneficiaries on SMEs in Akwa Ibom State and His Excellency’s roadmap on development in the state.

Mrs. Anwana who said the world is full of opportunities to those who are creative and ready to grasp appealed to the youth to change their attitude towards learning and be ready to partner His Excellency, Udom Gabriel Emmanuel in solving problems in the state.

Also speaking, the programme coordinator Mr. Tony Afia Jnr thanked the Executive Chairman of Uruan, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong for giving the youth of Uruan the opportunity to learn new skills for a better tomorrow.

Mr. Afia promised to give the beneficiaries the best of training that will give them the edge to compete favourably with others in their chosen skills.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, elated Mr. Promise Effiong Edet said that they will keep to all the roles and promised to make the best out of the programme.

The 1000 beneficiaries of the Skills Acquisition programme will be trained on a wide range of skills ranging from ICT, tailoring, soap making, paint production, hairdressing, hair cut, welding, shoemaking, organic fertilizer production, makeup and decoration, and catering

The programme which is cited in the four geopolitical zones in Uruan commenced in August 2021 and will end in January 2022.

Also at the event were: all councillors, supervisors, zonal leaders, ward leaders, past and political office holders in Uruan Local Government Area
