URUAN CHAIRMAN’S WIFE ORGANIZES VOTERS SENSITIZATION FOR WOMEN. By Roseline Etukudo

For greater participation of women in politics in Uruan Local Government Area, the wife of the Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Mrs. Ndifreke Iniobong Ekpenyong today, 12th August 2021 organized voters awareness/sensitization for ward women leaders in the Area.

According to Mrs. Ekpenyong, the sensitization which is aimed at creating awareness for women in all the villages and political wards in Uruan Local Government Area on the Nationwide Continuous Voters Card Registration(CVR) is at the instance of the wife of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.

“Today we gather here because our Mother Dr. Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel instructed. She said I should thank you for the support you have given her so far and also tell you to go out there, register, and tell other women in your communities that voters registration is ongoing in the Local Government Area. By doing so, it will be one of our little ways to show our appreciation to our mother for her effort in giving women a place in Akwa Ibom State Politics” she said

The Chairman’s wife maintained that Uruan women are politically enlightened and urged women leaders in all the political wards to spread the news on Voters registration in their communities

Sensitizing the women on the nationwide Continuous Voters Registration (CVR), Mr. Victor Akan, the AO Operations, Uruan Local Government INEC said that the 1st phase of the registration of Voters in Nigeria started on the 26th July 2021 and will end on 21st September 2021.

Mr. Akan said that INEC has created 71 new polling Units in Uruan Local Government, stressing that for the new polling units to be viable all hands must be on deck in terms of voters awareness.

He drew the attention of the women to the unclaimed voters cards at INEC office in Idu and appealed that the owners should be encouraged to pick them up.

He further enlightened the women on the two methods of registration; online and in-person registration, saying that uruan people should be encouraged to avail themselves to any of the two.

Mr. Akan also listed transfer/ change of polling Unit, correction of card information, and re-issuing of damaged, defaced, and lost voters cards among other issues that can be addressed at the INEC office in the Local Government Areas.

Also speaking, the State PDP women leader Mrs. Meme Akpabio thanked Mrs. Ndifreke Iniobong Ekpenyong for taking the lead in sensitizing the women on voters registration and appealed to the women to take the awareness to their communities for a better outcome.

She also thanked the wife of the Governor, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel for speaking for women in the state and Her husband, His Excellency, Mr.Udom Emmanuel for giving women a place in his completion agenda team.

Present at the event were; the Vice Chairman of Uruan LGA, Hon. (Evang.) Uduak Udoenang Dr.(Mrs) Itoro Francis Etim, COM11 Judiciary Service Commission, Mrs. Ofonime Henry Udofia, Mrs. Editi Eventus Edem.

Also present were; Hon. Mfon Otu, Hon.Affiong Asuquo, Hon. Loveth Etim. Mrs. Mary Okon Edidiong, Mrs. Angela Moses Effiong, women stakeholders and ward women leaders in Uruan LGA.
