The Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of Police, CP Andrew Amiengheme, has charged indegenes of Essien Udim local government Area to desist from violence and embrace peace for a better livelihood and peaceful coexistence amongst the citizenry.
CP Amiengheme, dropped the charge, Thursday, August 10, 2021, at the local government Council’s headquarters, Afaha Ikot Ebak, during his maiden one day walking and familiarisatuon visit to the area.
The State Police Boss, whose visit to Essien Udim local government also served as a medium for town hall meeting with the people of Essien Udim, also appealed to indegenes of the area to voluntorily give out useful information(s) to security Personnel in order to enable them perform their duties effectively and efficiently.
Earlier, the executive Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government , Hon.Anthony Luke, thanked the state Commissioner of Police and entourage for visiting Essien Udim Local Government Area, noting that their visit would have brought lasting peace and enduring security atmosthere back to the Local Government Area, which according to the Chairman, was recently made inhabitable accassioned by the activities of suspected miscreants.
Hon. Luke, also promised the CP of his administration’s co-operation and continued support to the police force to succeed in securing and maintaining the desired peace in Essien Udim Local Government in particular and Akwa Ibom State, at large.
Hon. Luke further used the medium to charge all Traditional Rulers in the area to be on the alert and to be willing to give out useful informations
to the police on all types of criminalities in their domain that will assist the police on effective service delivery and maintenance of crime free society
Also speaking, the former Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party( PDP), Akwa Ibom State, Hon. Sunyiekekere Inokon, implored the Police Commissioner for the re-opening of the Police Secondary school in ukana which has been shotdown due to crisis experienced in the Area.
In a similar development, Barrister umossoh, on behalf of the Youths of the area, promised to support the security Agencies in maintaining peace in the local Government Area, adding that, a police Post be established in ukana Ikot Akpan village to further boost effective security in the Area.
The former Chairman of Essien Udim Local Government Area, Hon. Martins Umanah and the Clan Head of Ukana West, His Highness Obot Udo Ekanem also reitirated their support for a better Essien Udim, assuring the State Police Commissioner of absolute cooperation at all times.
Also Present during the visit were, the Vice Chairman of Essien Udim, Mrs Emem Ekarika, all Councillors, Suppressors, Directors and indeed, the entire staff of the local government Council including the political class and stakeholders of Essien Udim.
Others included, the Departmental Police Officer(D.P.O) for Essien Udim, CSP Dore, the Area Commander, Ikot Ekpene Area Command, ACP Naziru Bello Kankarofi among other Senior Security Officers.
Recall that part of Essien Udim local government was recently
abandoned and citizens fled to neighborhood for their dear lives due to activities if suspected criminals who raided some villages in the area.
With the visit of the state Police Commissioner, and interventions already made by the Akwa Ibom state government in union with Hon Luke led administration in Essien udim, it’s believed that the people of the area would have enjoyed lasting peace and harmonous coexistence.
