In a bid to keep Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area safe from flood as the 2024 rainy season draws near, the Transition Committee Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. (Comr.) Nsikanabasi Ukobot has commenced the unclogging of drains in the area.

The exercise spans Oko Ita junction to Ikot Aba and adjourning communities, including Cross Culvert from Secretariat to Ndioho Eto.

The Chairman said that his administration is poised to ensure that the lives and properties of Ibiono Ibom people are saved from avoidable natural disasters like floods, hence, the reason for the project.

The Council’s Director of Works, Mr Isemin Isemin, giving an insight on the ongoing work, said that the desiltation is done through Direct Labour and is supervised by the Department of Works in the Council.

He further said that when it is completed, the flood that has been ravaging the Secretariat environment and the nearby communities will be greatly controlled.

The Chairman of Ward Chairmen’s Forum, Hon. Uwem Usua, who is also a resident of the benefiting area, Commended the proactive effort of the Transition Chairman and expressed confidence that Hon. Ukobot means well for Ibiono Ibom.

“ With the way the chairman embarks on live-touching projects and programmes, he means well for his people. I can confidently say that after his tenure, Ibiono will not only benefit but totally support the actualisation of the A. R. I. S. E Agenda of His Excellency.

The clearing of drainage systems is one of the human-centric projects and programmes approved by (Comrd.) Ukobot led Ibiono Ibom’s local government for execution.
