The Bishop of Uyo Catholic Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr. John Ayah, has today, 29th June 2023, proclaimed the former St Peter Autonomous Community, Ekpri Nsukara Ufot, a Parish.

The Bishop made the proclamation during the Feast Day Celebration/ Lunching of Fifty Million Naira Fund Church building project organised by the catholic community.

Today’s pronouncement of St Peter Ekpri Nsukara as a Parish by His Lordship has increased the number of parishes in the Uyo Catholic Diocese to 94

According to the Bishop, Ekpri Nsukara Autonomous Community has surpassed expectations and deserves a parish status.

“ I have not regretted creating this autonomous community in 2020. Two years down the line, you have made me proud. Today, I have come to change your status from St Peter Autonomous Community, Ekpri Nsukara, to St Peter Parish, Ekpri Nsukara Offot. I trust that God will give members the grace to function as a parish”

In his address, the church Pastoral Council representative, catechist Clement Esenam, thanked the Bishop for honouring the church invitation. He also attributed the infrastructural growth of the church to the goodwill drawn by the Priest in charge, Rev. Fr. Vincent Udo.

“ The incumbent Priest, Rev. Fr. Vincent Eyo Udo, is the pioneer Priest posted to serve in this community. Since assumption of duties, he has zealously pursued excellence in the task of infrastructural development and spiritual uplift of worshippers in the community “

“ However, it is noteworthy that a good chunk of funds injected into the infrastructure was made available through the goodwill of friends and associates,” he concluded.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Feast Day Celebration / Lunching of Fifty Million Naira Church Building Project, Hon. Godwin Essien, reeled out the event billed up for the celebration. The 4 days event, which commenced today, Thursday, 29 June 2023, with an opening mass by the Catholic Bishop of Uyo Diocese, will climax on Sunday with Fundraising to complete the main Church Auditorium.

The newly created St Peter Parish, Ekpri Nsukara offot began as a prayer center at Jimmy Udosen’s compound in Ikot Oku Idio in 1931. It was granted a station in 1944 under Anua Parish. 56 years later, the Bishop of Uyo Catholic Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Dr John Ebebe Ayah signed the bull creating the Autonomous Community on 14th January 2020.
