IKONO COUNCIL BOSS FLAGS OFF FREE MEDICAL SERVICES. by Ekpedeme Usoro

In keeping to his campaign promises of ensuring access to professional and free medical health care by the people of Ikono , the Executive chairman of Ikono Local Government Area ,Hon. Nyaknno Okoibu, has flagged off a 10 day free medical services sponsored by Ikono LG Council in collorboration with KNCV Foundation Nigeria and USAID at Methodist Primary School ground , Nung Ukim, Ikono.

The Ikono Council Boss said, the health of Ikono indigenes was tops in his administration’s agenda as they need to stay healthy to enjoy the dividends of democracy in Ikono LGA.

He enjoined the people of the area to embrace and take advantage of the medical services being provided at no cost for their benefit.

Hon. Nyaknno said the ten (10)days programme is scheduled to take place on a daily basis from 6th – 17th September, 2021, across the twelve (12) wards in the Local Government Area.

Hon. Nyaknno Okoibu also used the occasion to encourage Ikono people to get jabbed for the dreaded COVID-19 at the various designated vaccine centers in Ikono.

The Coordinator of KNCV Foundation Nigeria, Dr. Eze Chukwu said the mobile Hospital known as Wellness On Wheels (WOW) was specifically tailored for people in Southern Nigeria to ensure they have access to free medical services.

Dr. Chukwu pointed out that the feature equipment of the mobile Hospital was the chest x-ray machine which is capable of detecting all kinds of ailments in the body especially the ones that affect the lungs.

According to Dr. Chukwu, apart from attending to patients with other medical issues, KNCV’s major focus was on patients suffering from tuberculosis (TB) and Human Immuno Deficiency Syndrome (HIV) , as early detection and treatment will enhance longetivity.

He thanked the Executive chairman of Ikono for providing a comfortable and enabling working environment for him and his team.

Goodwill messages were received from Barr. Moses Akpan – PDP State Organizating Secretary, Hon. Nsikak Ntok – Leader of Ikono Legislature, Obonganwan Ofon Mike – Council Secretary and Dr. Abasiono Okon – MD Abaringo. Present also during the flag-off ceremony were Hon. Nsikan William Nyong( ward 1), Hon. Otobong Essien(ward 6), Hon. Mbosowo Etim (ward 4), Mrs. Ndorenyin Ubongabasi – Director of Administration, Comrd. Esin Obop, Mrs. Efreso – KNCV Supervisor for TB, Akwa Ibom state.
