Rt. Hon. Aniekan Akpan, a former commissioner in Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission has been elected the new chairman of Akwa Ibom State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
He emerged during a special congress of the party held at the Nest of Champions, Uyo, the State capital.
Rt. Hon. Akpan polled 3,818 votes from a total of 3,874 delegates from the 31 local government areas of the state who participated in the election.
Aniekan Akpan hails from Ikot Oku Usung in Ukanafun Local Government Area.
Before his resignation a few months ago as commissioner 1 in Akwa Ibom State Local Government Service Commission, Rt. Hon. Akpan started his political journey as a member, of the Caretaker Committee, National Republican Convention (NRC) – 1992
He served as Secretary, Ukanafun Local Government Council – 2000 – 2002, and was later elected executive Chairman, Ukanafun Local Government Council from 2008 – 2011.
Rt. Hon. Akpan served as Member, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly from 2011 – 2015, before being appointed as the state Commissioner for Education in 2015.
As the 7th Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, Elder Aniekan Akpan is expected to serve out the remaining years of Obong Udo Ekpenyong’s tenure which was truncated by his sudden death earlier this year.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, AKS, said,
“Working with you these years has been wonderful. Today I am proud of your elevation. The Local Government Service Commission will miss your presence but not your WISDOM”
Hon Eyo congratulated the new PDP State Chairman as he sets to assume his new office.
