
Itu Local Government Council is partnering with the KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation to carry out free diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis as well as related diseases on the people of Itu Local Government Area.
The exercise commenced on Monday, 10 May, 2021, at the Council headquarters, Mbak Atai
Staff of the council, residents of Mbak Atai and its environs benefited from the exercise.
Speaking, the Chairman of Itu Local Government, Barr Etetim Onuk, said the health of the people of Itu was paramount to his administration.
He said it was only when the citizens were healthy that they could contribute meaningfully to the development of their respective communities.
The chairman further said that his administration would continue to implement policies that would not only ensure easy access to medicare but affordable services as well.
Mr Onuk encouraged the people to take advantage of the WOW(Wellness On Wheel) truck which he said would help to rid the communities of the menace of tuberculosis and other ailments, and ultimately ensure a healthier society.
Also speaking, the Coordinator, KNCV Foundation Southern region, Dr Eze Chukwu, commended the Executive Chairman of Itu for accepting to partner with the Foundation and promised to put in their best for the good people of Itu.
Dr Eze said the exercise would last for two weeks during which the truck would move through different villages of the area.
He said that the machine diagnosed tuberculosis and other viral diseases within an hour and could run eight samples concurrently and give results in ninety minutes.
