The oldest indigene of ikot Uba village, utit obio clan, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Elder chief Dr. Daniel Ekpenyong has decried the deplorable state of roads in his community.
Responding to questions during an interactive session with journalists today in Ikot Uba, Elder Ekpenyong disclosed that the poor state of road network has hindered development in the community for many years.
The retired pharmacist who is also into cocoa farming revealed that, indigenes of Ikot Uba are mainly farmers as well as mat traders but for the deplorable state of road in the community, it is almost difficult for them to transport goods and services to neighboring villages and towns.
The senior citizen appealed to the Akwa Ibom State Government to rapidly respond to the plights of residents of the Area and rescue commuters from dangers associated with the poor road conditions.
Commending Governor Udom Emmanuel led administration which anchors on industrialization, Elder Ekpenyong advised youths to be productive especially during the planting season rather than engaged in atrocious practices.
He equally called on political leaders from grassroot to the federal level to avoid hoarding of people’s right as this is an avenue to short life span.
Elder Ekpenyong who still looks very active at age 104 and blessed with sixteen children from his three wives, attributed his long life to God’s will and special favour.
