NSChE Champions STEM Education and Healthcare Innovation at Grand End-of-Year Dinner and Awards Night

Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – December 13, 2025 – The Nigerian Society of Chemical Engineers (NSChE), Akwa Ibom/Cross River State Chapter, powerfully concluded its 2025 Chemical Engineering Week with a Dinner, Award, and Induction Night that celebrated professional excellence, investment in future talent, and showcased critical engineering solutions. The event, held on Friday, December 12th, at Grace Hall, Helemah Events Center, was a profound demonstration of the Society’s commitment to its theme: “The Role of Chemical Engineers in Fostering a Sustainable Future for the Healthcare Sector.”

Under the distinguished chairmanship of Engr. Chief Augustine Ukpong FNSChE and co-chairmanship of Mr. Morgan Nyekazi Amadi, the evening was graced by eminent personalities, including the Guest of Honour, Rt. Hon. Edidiong Joseph Inyang, Chairman, Ibesikpo-Asutan Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State.

A core mission of the evening was to nurture the next generation of engineers. The Society awarded prestigious scholarships to three outstanding university students: Mfonido Ransome Bassey (University of Uyo), Ifeoma Sandra (Akwa Ibom State University), and Linus Owogeka Ogar (University of Calabar).

In a highlight that bridged community outreach with academic encouragement, three exceptional secondary school students from Western Annang Secondary Commercial School (WASCO), Ukanafun, were honored with cash awards and customized chemical Engineering exercise books. The students—Faith Uwem Uko (SS2), Goodluck Monday Otobong (SS3), and God’swill Ndifreke Silas (SS3)—were identified during the chapter’s earlier career counseling and STEM equipment donation visit to their school. They were commended for exemplary academic performance and embodying the curiosity and attention to detail inherent to engineers. The awards were presented by a high-profile team, including Rt. Hon.. (Evang.) Edidiong Joseph Inyang, Executive Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan LGA; Professor Orua Antia, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, University of Uyo; and Engr. (Dr.) Jeremiah Anietie, representing the Chairman of the occasion.

Aligning with the healthcare theme, the Society presented its flagship Innovative Modular Medical Oxygen Production Plant initiative. This dream project, aimed at ensuring oxygen availability in primary healthcare facilities across Akwa Ibom State, was detailed to the audience. A creative drama presentation by the Association of Wives of Chemical Engineers further deepened understanding of this vital project’s potential impact on community health.

Chapter Chairman Engr. Ikemesit Orok, MNSE, articulated the interconnected vision behind the night’s diverse events. “From recognizing brilliant young minds in Ukanafun and awarding our top university scholars to unveiling our modular oxygen plant, we are executing a unified strategy,” he stated. “We are igniting passion in schools, supporting talent in universities, and deploying engineering ingenuity to solve our society’s most pressing health challenges. This holistic approach is how we build a sustainable future.”

The grand event, expertly coordinated by Planning Committee Chairman Engr. Emmanuel Ben Ebong, also featured the induction of new professional members and recognition awards for distinguished personalities who have significantly impacted the engineering profession with their corporate social responsibility.
