
The Transition Committee Chairman, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, Comr. Nsikanabasi Ukobot has encouraged indigenous people of the area to be agents of peace at all times.
He made this appeal today, January 14 2024, during the Thanksgiving Service marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration at Church of Christ, Ekput, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
While acknowledging the significance of the celebration and the need to recognize the sacrifices made by military personnel during wars, the Transition Chairman opined that the only way to repay their sacrifices is to sustain the peace they fought for.
In his words, “Today, we celebrate and honour the living legends and those whose lives ended in the war, respectively. We live in peace and unity today because they sacrificed their lives and comfort many years ago. For this reason and more, we should at all times seek for peace and embrace peace”
Reminiscing on the impact of the Civil War on Ibiono Ibom, he however paid glowing tribute to a gallant Ibiono Ibom son, Major General Philip Effiong (Late) whom he said initiated and negotiated an end to the Nigerian Civil War. Adding that Ibiono Ibom has a place in the history of peace-making in the country, Nigeria.
In particular, the Chairman saluted the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, for being a man of peace and vowed to replicate the same in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
He further acknowledged the role played by Comr. Ini Ememobong, political leaders and well-meaning sons and daughters of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area are making sure that the area is in tune with the A. R. I. S. E Agenda of Governor Umo Eno.
Earlier, in his sermon drawn from Eph. 1:3, the Minister of the congregation, Mr. Nsikak Akpan (Min.) assured worshipers of God’s Blessings in the new year and added that the best Empowerment is the Blessings of God.
