The Executive Chairman, Ika Local Government Area, Hon. Malachy Ukpeh had on Monday, 9th June 2021 received the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police CP, Amiengheme Andrew in his office at Urua Inyang, Ika LGA.
The new Akwa Ibom State Police Commissioner is on a familiarization tour to the 31 Local Government Areas in the State.
Receiving the CP and his entourage, the Executive Chairman, Hon. Malachy Ukpeh expressed delight on the visit and called on Ika indigenes to cooperate with his administration and the Police to maintain peace and order in the Local Government Area.
The Chairman appealed to the peace-loving people of Ika to stop further attacks on police formations in the area stressing that for Ika to develop, peace is paramount.
Hon. Ukpeh acknowledged the severity of security, noting that it is not a day’s job, and disclosed that modalities are in place to prevent further encroachment and attacks in the Area.
He appreciated the Police Boss for the assistance during the period of challenge, adding, that it curtailed the level of destruction of lives and properties in the area.
In his remarks, the Police Commissioner appealed to the Youth of Ika to shun cultism and desist from taking laws into their hands.
He further urged the Youth of Ika LGA to be the “police eyes”, by monitoring and reporting to the police any suspicious activities capable of breaching the peace in their communities.
Recall on the 28th of April 2021, unknown gunmen launched an attack on Ika people and also the foiled attempted attack on the Ika Divisional Police Station.
which unfortunately claimed the lives of two police officers, and one Police Operational Van burnt leaving the people in fear of a reoccurrence.
The highpoint of the occasion was the dedication of a van donated by Ika LGA to assist the Ika LGA Police Command in their operations.
