The Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Area, Hon. (surv) Iniobong Ekpenyong has debunked the claims contained in paragraph 4 of the press release issued by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command on 2nd May 2021, on the alleged kidnapping, raping, and murdering of one Iniubong Umoren.
The Akwa Ibom State police in a press release signed by the Police Public Relations, Officer SP Odiko MacDon has alleged that the suspect confessed to have told his Local Government Chairman of his atrocity before escaping to Calabar and was never at anytime handed over to the Police by anyone.
The Chairman in his rejoinder, “RE: Police Press Release with Reference No: AZ:5300/AIS/PPRD/VOL.5/25 dated 2nd May 2021: ” stated that the suspect Mr.Uduak Frank Akpan, did not pre-inform him of his involvement and activities leading to the gruesome murder of Miss Iniobong Umoren before he escaped to Calabar.
“For the records, it is not true that the suspect confessed to me of his committing the crime before escaping to Calabar. As matter of fact, when contacted, the suspect who was still denying his role on the trending kidnap/abduction news was persuaded to turn himself in order to clear his name, if his hands were clean as claimed by him. The suspect had no personal physical contact with me before his arrest by the DPO of Uruan.” Surv. Ekpenyong justified.
Hon. Ekpenyong who is deeply saddened by the incident has however condoled with the bereaved family and friends of the deceased.
“I am deeply saddened by the harrowing incident and do hereby condole with all of you, the family and friends of the victim. I urge you to, please, find consolation in the fact that the suspect is in the Police net and trusting that justice will be served”.
The Council Boss applauded the effort of the police force in the arrest of the suspect and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to collaborate with law enforcement agencies to ensure that Uruan Local Government Area is rid of criminals and criminalities.
The Chairman further commended His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel for his strides in repositioning the security architecture of Akwa Ibom state, which according to Hon. Ekpenyong, has led to effective and efficient security service delivery at all times.
He pledged his unwavering, unfaltering, and undiluted loyalty to the people’s Governor.
