LG CHAIRMEN FLAG-OFF COVID-19 VACCINATION

Chairmen of Local Government Councils in Akwa Ibom State have flagged – off COVID-19 vaccination in their various Local Government Areas. This followed the official flag-off of the vaccination by Akwa Ibom State Government on 19th, March, 2021 at Government House where Frontline Workers and top Government Officials led by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Emmanuel Ekuwem got vaccinated.

At the commencement of the vaccination against COVID-19 pandemic , the Governor vouched for the safety of AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines and reminded the people that vaccines over the years have always been a means of protecting human race against outbreak of non-treatable diseases.

Amongst the first Local Government Chairmen that has flagged-off COVID-19 vaccination on Monday, 22nd March, 2021 are; Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Etetim Onuk of Itu Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. kingsley Frank of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Pastor Effiong Ubokulo of Oron Local Government Area and Rt. Hon. Ekopimo Polycarp of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

The Chairmen led frontline workers and top Government Officials in their Local Government Areas to receive the first jab of the vaccine.

At Itu Local Government Council, the Chairman Hon. (Barr.) Etetim Onuk before taking the jab said the vaccine is safe and urged those in critical sectors to openly embrace the vaccination exercise.

The Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area represented by his wife Mrs Bright Ekopimo Polycarp and his counterpart at Oron Local Government Pastor Effiong Ubokulo urged frontline workers in their respective Area to voluntarily present themselves for the vaccination in this first phase.

Rt. Hon. kingsley Frank, the Executive chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area before taking the jab thanked the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State for the vaccine and urged the people to take responsibility by presenting themselves for vaccination.

As at the time of this report, plans are in top gear by other Local Government Chairmen in the State to flag-off COVID-19 Vaccination in their various Local Government Areas.

Recall, The state government had on March 10, 2021, taken delivery of 69,030 doses of Oxford AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccines from the Federal Government which has been shared to critical sectors in the state in this first phase.
