We Came to Remodel Ibesikpo Asutan” — Inyang

The Executive Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Evangelist Edidiong Inyang, has said that his administration came into office to remodel the council and improve the living conditions of the people.

Inyang stated this at a press briefing to mark the second anniversary of his administration, where he highlighted projects and programmes executed in the council headquarters and communities across the local government.

He said the administration’s development agenda was driven by what he described as the “Murphy Effect”, a governance philosophy aimed at ensuring that every project and government action translates into tangible benefits for the people.

According to him, one of his major commitments before assuming office was to transform the council secretariat and create a conducive working environment for staff.

He said the administration had since remodelled the council secretariat, renovated the Administrative, Legislative and Executive buildings, and constructed an ultramodern Chairman’s Office, Administration Block and Legislative Chamber.

Other improvements at the council headquarters, he said, included the furnishing of the council hall, provision of office spaces for political aides and the renovation of key offices to enhance administrative efficiency.

Inyang said the administration had also extended its development drive to the communities through road grading across all wards to improve access and movement, particularly in rural areas.

He added that the council had delivered transformers to wards and planted electricity poles in areas identified as needing improved power supply.

The chairman said the administration had also rehabilitated boreholes at Owot Uta and Ikot Akpa Edung as part of its response to the water needs of residents.

In the health sector, he said the council donated an ambulance to a Primary Health Care Centre to strengthen emergency response and access to healthcare services.

Inyang further disclosed that the administration had constructed an ultramodern village hall in Mbierebe Obio and commenced plans for an ultramodern market at Nnung Udoe through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the project.

He said the council had also commenced the construction of an ultramodern administrative block for the Traditional Rulers Council following a groundbreaking ceremony.

On education, the chairman listed scholarship grants for Ibesikpo Asutan students in tertiary institutions, provision of back-to-school materials for primary school pupils and payment of external NECO fees for more than 100 secondary school students as some of the measures taken to ease the educational burden on families.

The administration, he added, sponsored the 2026 Inter-School Quiz Competition as part of its efforts to promote academic excellence among pupils and students in the local government.

Inyang said monthly stipends were also being paid to traditional rulers and statutory party officers as part of the administration’s support for grassroots leadership and stability.

He disclosed that the council had ventured into agriculture, particularly the cultivation of tomatoes, cucumber and other crops, recording what he described as a massive harvest.

The chairman also highlighted youth and sports development, noting that the administration had revived the Chairman’s Cup, with the second edition underway, to provide opportunities for young people to participate in sporting activities and showcase their talents.

He said the council had also provided musical instruments for its weekly prayer summit, describing the gesture as support for the spiritual and communal activities of residents.

Inyang said the administration had constituted the Ibesikpo Asutan Students Worldwide (FIASA) as a platform for students to engage with the council, discuss issues affecting education and youth development, and maintain stronger links with their communities.

He further disclosed that the council had commenced work towards the proposed 3,000-capacity stadium, which, when completed, would provide facilities for sporting activities, youth development and major community events.

The chairman said the projects and programmes were evidence of his administration’s determination to fulfil its promise to remodel Ibesikpo Asutan and make governance more responsive to the people.

“We came to remodel Ibesikpo Asutan,” Inyang said, stressing that the administration would continue to prioritise projects and measures capable of improving the welfare of residents.

He said the council would sustain ongoing projects and pursue further initiatives aimed at strengthening infrastructure, education, healthcare, electricity, agriculture, youth development and grassroots administration.
