Urges Civic Responsibility

In her signature magnanimity, the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Otobong Aaron, today, 18th March, 2026, donated the sum of ₦300,000 each to 6 members of the Nigerian Medical Students Association, Nsit Ibom Chapter and 1 million naira to law school bound indigenes in her office.
The intervention is aimed at assisting the students in meeting pressing academic needs, particularly medical school fees and 1 million naira for law school-bound indigenes.
Presenting the funds, the Chairman stated that her administration remains committed to ensuring that no indigene of Nsit Ibom is denied opportunity, whether through formal education or vocational training. She added that plans are underway to establish a skills acquisition centre in the local government as part of efforts to broaden opportunities for those who may not pursue university education.
Rt. Hon. Aaron charged the students to maintain high academic standards and return as professionals willing to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
She also emphasized the importance of civic engagement, urging the students to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate actively in the electoral process.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the association’s president, Comrade Abasi-Odiong Udofia a 400 level student-indigene from Edeobom1, expressed appreciation for the motherly gesture, noting that the support would go a long way in offsetting outstanding school fees and other academic expenses.
He further pledged that members of the association would carry out health outreach programmes in Nsit Ibom as a way of giving back to society when the opportunity comes.
He also noted that the body is made up of the University of Uyo Medical School student-indigenes from both the Asang and Mbiaso court areas of the LG.
The student president also appealed to the Executive Chairman to make the educational support a yearly intervention that will continually alleviate the challenges faced by medical students.
In response, Rt. Hon. Aaron assured the students that the request would be considered, giving indications that such support could be sustained.

Meda Afia, Afaha Offiong,
Mary Uwah, Oboyo Ikot Ita,
Blessing Eking, Afia Nsit Urua Nko, and
Iniubong Ekpenyong , Ikot Abasi Nsit.
Also speaking, the Supervisor for Education, Hon. Eyo Eshiet, commended the Chairman’s ’s continued investment in education and encouraged the students to remain focused on their studies.
The visit climaxed with the presentation of a hand-painted portrait of the chairman by the students in appreciation of her support.
