…Issues Stern Warning Against Vandalism
The Chairman of Etinan Local Government Area, Hon. Uko Umoh, has concluded the first phase of commissioning critical infrastructure projects across eight communities, including water supply and electrification initiatives. While celebrating these milestones, the chairman issued a strong warning against vandalism, vowing that anyone caught sabotaging public infrastructure would be prosecuted and jailed.
Speaking during the week-long commissioning tour, Hon. Umoh, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Emily Umoh, urged residents to take ownership of the newly delivered projects and safeguard them for long-term benefit. He lamented the growing trend of vandalism, stressing that such actions undermine the government’s efforts to improve lives.
“It is disheartening that while government at all levels is striving to improve living conditions, some individuals are bent on destroying these gains. Let me be clear, anyone caught vandalizing public property will face legal consequences,” he warned. “Youth leaders must take responsibility. You know those in your communities; it’s your duty to protect these facilities.”
The projects commissioned include electricity installations in Etinan Village near the Motor Park (Urban Ward 1), Ikot Nkang (Northern Iman Ward 2), Ikot Ibok (Southern Iman Ward 3), and Ekpene Ukpa (Urban Ward 2). Water projects were delivered to Ikot Udo Otto (Urban Ward 3), Afaha Akpan Ekpo (Urban Ward 5), Ikot Eba (Urban Ward 2), and Iwor Etor (Southern Iman Ward 5).
During the ceremonies, community and political leaders praised Chairman Umoh’s developmental strides and responsiveness to long-standing infrastructural needs.
At Ikot Udo Otto, where a water project was commissioned, Pastor Ubong Isong, the political leader of Urban Ward 3, commended the chairman for reviving abandoned infrastructure and highlighted the lack of maintenance culture as a major challenge to development in Africa.
In Afaha Akpan Ekpo, Village Council Chairman Pastor Godwin Utin lauded the water project and appealed to the council to prioritize the listing of the Afaha Akpan Ekpo–Ibagwa road for construction.
At Ikot Nkang, Obong Donald Uko, political leader of Northern Iman Ward 2, expressed appreciation for the chairman’s commitment to fulfilling his mandate, while Dr. Friday Etuk (ASSUR) thanked Hon. Umoh for not only providing a functional transformer but also installing new poles to replace damaged ones.
Following the commissioning, the chairman proceeded to inspect the ongoing Motor Park and Etinan remodelling projects, reinforcing his administration’s dedication to comprehensive development across the LGA.
The events were attended by key dignitaries, including the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Hon. Uko Udom SAN; Member representing Etinan State Constituency, Hon. Uduak Ekpo-Ufot; Dr. Okon; Engr. Billy Etuk, PDP State Vice Chairman (Uyo Senatorial District), Hon. Dr. Inemesit Itina, Vice Chairman of Etinan LGA, Hon. Imaobong Michael, Legislative Leader, Hon. Ekerete Umoh, Secretary of Council, Hon. Idorenyin Udoh, PDP Chapter Chairman, Hon. Pius Emmanuel, APC Chapter Chairman, Comrade Israel Tommy, and APC Ward Leader, Pastor UduakAbasi Ikpat, among others.
The successful completion of these projects marks a major milestone in Chairman Umoh’s administration, underlining his proactive approach to grassroots development and community well-being.
