The Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Otobong Aaron empowered 100 petty traders at the popular Afaha Nsit Market today, as part of her people-driven leadership.
Chairman Aaron, accompanied by her Executives and staff of the Gender-based Violence Unit, flagged off the 16-day GBV activism sensitization tour. She donated cash gifts to the traders and encouraged them to remain law-abiding.
She emphasized that this gesture fulfilled her campaign promises to help the less privileged and promised to extend similar support to other market traders.
Chair Aaron reassured the people of her commitment to creating a GBV-free zone, making it uncomfortable for perpetrators of abuse. She urged victims to report cases to the appropriate authorities in the Local Government Council for proper investigation and treatment.
Mrs. Edidiong Ekong, the program’s state coordinator, educated the people on Gender-based violence, liable victims, and the VAPP Law. She warned against activities susceptible to abuse and stressed that the Law would hold culprits accountable.
Similarly, Nsit Ibom Council’s Director of Social, Development, Education, Information, Sports and Culture (SDEISC) Mrs. Emem Duncan, commended Chairman Aaron for leading the team and putting smiles on the faces of the traders. She encouraged women to report GBV cases to the social welfare desk for adequate treatment.
Dignitaries present included the Council Secretary, Mrs. Eyaknude Unaam, Councilor representing Mbiaso VI, Hon. Uwongo Umoh, Hon. Otobong Owoidoho, Hon. Edidiong Dickson, Councilor Mbiaso 1 and Councilor representing Asang 5, Hon. Ekpeno Daniel, Mr. Quincy Ukpong.
