
The Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council has lauded the Chairman of Local Government Service Commission, Akwa Ibom State Rt. Hon. Monday Eyo for approving the appointment of four of its member’s Heads of Departments in the Local Government Service.
The appointees are members of the Local Government Information Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council
The commendation which was one of the points in a communique issued at the end of its State Congress on Friday, May 3, 2022, also congratulated the members for their new elevation in government service.
The Communique reads in parts, “congress extended commendation to Comrades Roseline Etukudo, Gabriel Ekaidem, Nse Ebieme, and Emem Ebito, all of Local Government Information Chapel, on their appointments as Directors in the Local Government Service in the State. Also, Congress commended the Chairman of The Local Government Service Commission, Hon. Monday Eyo for approving the appointments”
The Union also Congratulated Rt Hon Ekong Sampson and Hon Itoro Columba, both of the Federated Chapel for their victories at the just-concluded PDP primaries for Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District and Ikono State Constituency, respectively.
The Congress condemned in strong terms the attack on one of its members Comrade Harrison Essien of AKBC Radio Chapel by DSP Ezra Yuguda, Commandant, Government House Uyo, at the Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atan Offot, Uyo, and demanded his removal from his position, apology, and compensation within the period stipulated in the petition to the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, or face legal action.
Similarly, Congress decried the worsening power situation in Uyo Metropolis, which has resulted in a huge economic loss by Small Scale Entrepreneurs and discomfort to residents despite the increase in tariffs and charged by PHEDC and appeal to the state government to intervene so as to remedy this situation.
The Amos Etuk led NUJ appealed to members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly to support and vote in favour of autonomy for Local Government in the country, as it will bring about positive developments in the local areas.
Congress condemned the resurging wave of kidnappings in some parts of the State and called on security agencies to step up their game.
Also, Congress called on Contractors handling Ring Roads 2 and 3 to increase their work speed and place diversion signs at an appropriate distance in order to reduce accidents.
